So I have grabbed everything on this list when I started collecting. I have found a use for all of it.

Best tip. Grab as much of it as you can at the dollar store. spending 100 bucks there means you saved 400 bucks.

Your workshop is the most expensive part of this hobby cut costs where you can. If there is one tool I would reccomend good quality for, it would be snips. A nice sharp pair can help preserve delicate ornamentation.

Armies are as expensive as you want them to be. You can grab a get started box for 100 bucks, and after that grow at your own pace and satisfaction.

Also, don't buy too many figures at once. You will have a massive back log of work. A figure can take 15 hours to complete from start to finish. More for characters and champions.

Months if you eventually want to learn display/ painting competition quality.

apart from paint brushes, a good set of brushes makes a huge difference... and micro drill bits with hand drill... those are usually specialist tools and cost a bit but are so worth it, I used them to give more hold to my models by drilling into the joints and using a piece of paperclip metal as an extra bit, even made moving parts on my old empire steam tank, everything moved even the wheels etc...

Moving parts is pretty sweet. I have a pin vise and a proxxon dremel, with some engraving bits. Once my circle compass cutter arrives I'm going to be doing 3d puddles for the bases with clear water effects and pigment. Those will be for Typhus, the bloat drones, and plague marines.

I also want to start with some green stuff mods as well. Some of the green stuff work out there is unreal.

if you get some green stuff and a pack of spirit hosts and with a bit of green stuff and glue and modification you could attach the hosts unto some super badass nurgle champs or HQ (or vehicles) and have the hosts look like they are goo monsters coming out of their armour etc... like Hexxus from ferngully the cartoon... I had a plan to make a nurgle army with that theme, lots of goo, lots of sticky stuff, lots of fluids and pus...

Actually I want to practice carving rotten heads and severed hands. Going for more of a fetish and endtrail theme. The new plague models are cool, but not enough innards. Might also grab some blight grenade hands for equipment but keep the hands on them and hang them from belts.
