I've upgraded Trek from "shitty" to merely "weird" in my mind given the real effort they appear to have put into the final episodes of this season ending with a tease of hope for next season. This is RLM's response - haven't watched it yet. I know Mike was hoping the show took place in the mirror universe, only to find out that, well, I won't ruin it for you. Expect spoilers in this review.

Good review. My main problem was the characters didn't feel interesting. I can't even remember their names. All that drama and action wasn't as meaningful without relatable or interesting characters. Some of the plot and technology were also too convoluted. I give a pass to fungus FTL. But then the fungus became linked to all life in every universe, and a spooky ghost knew more about it than the scientist who invented access to it.

completely agree. everything was just so forced. none of the relationships developed organically and most of the plot was the same. if everything is just told to you rather than experiencing developments along with the characters, they're not interesting, and that's exactly what happened. it seems the writers are just thinking about what they want to happen rather than what would happen.
