Why can politicians trade stocks?

Politicians being allowed to trade stocks is the most outrageous part of the broken system of government in the U.S. Legally allowed to use inside information to increase their wealth while everyone else would be jailed for doing it is insane. The way that most outwardly are against it while they clearly want to keep it alive to get richer is some dirty shit.

Even if they are banned from trading, they will tell somebody and get a kick back or something.

"How dare they make money!"

The funny thing is that the social media accounts that report on their trades are actually helping their profits because the monkeys will just copy the trade direction which helps pump the trade.

Or apply same rules that insiders have, black out periods and future notifications. So they can trade but need to publish it a month or two before and not trading at specific times. The later may be tougher as the insider blackout periods are timed for after quarterly financial release.
