My aren't we feeling judgy today. We agreed I'd put up a balloon or whatever (Pee-wee really is the best) the next couple of times you did this. Fine, let's conclude that experiment since I think you see my point about you're having an intentional blind spot. You wish you were Mrs. Xi. That's cool. Now as for me. We've said Bobbob can be a veritable paradox. I bestride continents and come to you with new and old world sensibilities...AND biases, fair enough. Most of us on this site acknowledge having biases and are happy to test our assumptions against eachother..by poking fun at them.
You give me pause, so tell me this, since you're obviously the intelligent, humble and unpretentious one..great combo, hnngh.. how'd you say that's working for you? (and the other useful idiots).

Whataboutism doesn't really work to deflect criticism of hypocrisy, especially when you don't even mention the 2 countries being discussed - Germany & Qatar. It just reinforces the point if anything - the way you're trying to defend the European country using fallacious arguments.
You've also assumed there's bias at play here. Neither me nor Kavork would hold back on our criticisms of Qatar but this isn't the topic of discussion here. Eurocentrist hypocrisy is the topic of the post, if you can handle it.
To spell it out for you: going to another country & demanding they conform to your beliefs/standards/values/laws when you're a guest in that country is arrogant at best. Agree or nah?
btw - he's criticises Muslims for going to Germany & doing the exact same thing. I dunno if you watched the video or not but he mentions this as well as his criticisms of Qatar. I fully agree with what he says in the video if you wanna actually argue the topic. In fact I was cheering for Germany until about quarter way thru the match when I saw what Germany did before the game - this photo is cringe & ignorant imo, I'm glad they lost after that.. it's made for some good memes tho:

Agree that they never should have had the tournament in a country whose values are diametrically opposed to those of the rest of the world/humanity. As for respecting the host nation's values now that we/the world are there... nah. Unh uh. Or maybe you missed this headline:
Can someone say they have a daughter, a sister or even that they were born of a mother when they think this type of culture or tradition somehow needs to be equally respected. Bollocks.

Do you realize that 'the west' is less than 15% of humanity?
Eurocentrism & liberal hegemonic ideology is a disease. We're not the only culture in the world, & far from the most wholesome. I don't know how a grown adult can't see thru that self-serving crap.
Your DailyMail anecdote is as valid as if I brought up George Floyd, Gary Webb, Julian Assange, CIA torture dungeons, CIA drug running, the invasion of Iraq, the destruction of Libya, Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, US ruling class lying their way into dozens of wars where they've killed tens of millions of people & rendered even more homeless, or the porn industry, or Miley Cyrus to prove the opposite point. In fact the next world cup is going to be hosted by the most prolific human rights abuser in the world - the one that uses human rights advocacy as a geopolitical weapon. Can you guess which country I'm talking about?
What was it someone once said about casting the first stone?

You take that back! Miley Cyrus is a national treasure.
Quite the list, seriously. Maybe take time to hydrate, get some tissues and clean up or whatever. Will be looking forward to your endless stream of 'the west sucks and mao-stalin-putin are great', vids. And maybe one day, if you succeed, you can have your very own turnip or something (whatever they offer as reward).

that was just a few things off the top of my head. The actual list is far longer than that.
The point is not to say 'the west sucks'. It's about the insane hypocrisy of preaching your cultural values as if they're superior when you're a guest in someone else's country, trying to nitpick & shame the host ... for what?
Either attend the event or boycott it. Choosing a halfway point & grandstanding about your values is super fucked & makes us look like smug wankers to the majority of the world. Especially as a NATO member in West Asia considering what's gone down there in the past couple decades. Even Japanese who try to be part of the west, live in a US satellite state & are generally meek & overly polite are taking the piss.
Miley Cyrus is about as degenerate to these Gulf Arabs as lashing women for adultery is to us, I'd imagine. She made the list just because it's a better comparison - an example of weird western values, as seen by a lot of the world. The other stuff is just to make sure the point is made. This habit the west is forming where we weaponize sports for political ends (often driven by geopolitical psyop bs) isn't doing anyone any favours, regardless of how it makes you feel before you stop & think about it (or have some militant kiwi bang on your noggin & remind you we're out of line).

This Dan about what you just said. For as long as kids in a village could get around a soccer ball they've been idolizing the stars of the game. Sure, nowadays, they'll get lucrative marketing deals where you get to smell like Ronaldo or whatever, but through modern media (traditional and social) they actually have global reach. Microphones in their faces 24/7. Like movie stars, sports stars start to think their opinion matters. That they have a responsibility to share that opinion. God help us. I'll agree that my favorites (in Hockey) are the Beliveaus and the Lafleurs. Classic masters of the game who in their day played the game and knew better and kept their nose out of the rest. Last I checked, you just got to be from a republic where the media isn't muzzled (which poses other problems when it is) to be given the opportunity to answer stupid questions, stupidly.

They are extremely visible which is more reason to set a good example.
You don't go to someone else's country as a guest at a tournament & demand they adhere to your cultural values or use it to further a political cause you know the host isn't on board with. It's just disrespectful & sets a terrible example.
I've just heard from someone in Doha & he says all political stuff is banned from the stadiums pretty much. Teeshirts, banners etc. It's not unlike how a lot of major events go down all over the world.
The next world cup is in Canada, USA & Mexico. Should the teams be using it to grandstand about the shocking things Canada does either at home or around the world or would you prefer they just play soccer & let everyone enjoy it without politics or disrespect?
An example could be the teams demand Canada pay reparations to the indigenous they genocided & using pics of children from the mass graves in the Catholic boarding schools. Or maybe just demand that Canada implement Sharia law because that's their values & they're going to come & be obnoxious about it just because it makes them feel righteous, similar to the rainbow armband bollocks.
