I honestly don't care whether people vape or smoke as long as they do it outside. Ideally nicotine vaping should be used as a "quit smoking" aid, no addiction is healthy.
The snus argument is a red herring, as this is so uncommon in other EU countries that the ban had no significant effect, thus cannot be compared.
Long term effects of vaping are not yet understood, btw. Does anybody know in which scientific magazine or website she published her findings

I vape away in my work office where there are 2-4 other people at any given time and nobody minds.
The guy next to me is a heavy snus user which he has to smuggle from sweden. Either one is a helluva lot safer than smoking.

I can see why they've tried to demonize vaping as they didn't want it to gain in popularity too quick before we know all the health risks associated with it. But making people believe that it is more harmful than smoking is a terrible idea. It can lead to more people smoking cigarettes instead and destroys the government's credibility.

Another reason they demonize vaping could be that the Canadian government profits immensely from taxes collected by smokers. 1 life long heavy smoker that dies of lung cancer not only completely pays his own treatment but at least 5 others treatment as well.

Native cigarettes are illegal if you do not possess a status card. The claim the government makes is that buying contraband cigarettes supports organized crime. Not entirely true. Organized crime only profites because untaxed native cigarrettes are prohibited. Hence why "criminals" sell them for profit.
Still skeptical? Look at weed and booze. Prohibited first, until the government could regulate the supply and sell it from their sources at their prices.
These are largely Canadian figures since in the states tobacco isn't nearly as expensive, and weed is federally illegal. I believe alcohol is also state regulated. (Smart move.)
