A friend of mine in his 50's is into young women in their 20's, he got burnt quite badly by 2 of them and taken advantage of by quite a few. He always has young flatmates and I think he kind of hopes that one day they will offer him to pay the rent in "naturals". sad really.

Let's see... I'm 31 now. I don't date women much over 25. And when I am 90 it will be the same way.
The difference between me and these guys is that I don't buy shit for women unless she is my girlfriend.
Now why will I always prefer younger women?
1. Because nature. 2. That is when women are their hottest and wettest. 3. Less baggage. 4. Less needy for committment. 5. Less serious and more fun.

Quite right. Dating was invented in the late 1800's / early 1900's.
It was a way for young women who moved into the big city to subsidise some of their meals. While simultaneously looking for a husband.
The men that were confident in themselves and fancied the girl would look at it as a pleasant arrangement where sexual activity would be exchanged for meals.
Women that fancied the men they were with would provide sex in return for meals and emotional experiences.

Weren't these women called prostitutes? Wasn't this precisely the problem with Jack the Ripper in the late 1800s? That he was stalking these new arrivals to the city who were selling themselves for a chance at a meal or a place to stay? I don't think they reflected the common situation for the vast majority of women. What they did reflect was a continuation of the punishment women faced for not being married by the time they were 25 going back thousands of years. It was a situation that needed to be corrected. Unfortunately the corrective mechanism didn't have a end state clearly laid out in advance lol. So now we've gone way too far the other way where men are too afraid to get married because they don't want to lose half or more of everything they've earned during their lifetime not to mention years of their life wasted.

You are right in the sense that it was commonly confused for prostitution at first. And some were imprisoned for it.
Mainly because women are notoriously terrible at explaining themselves. Because LOGICALLY they live with a shitload of cognitive dissonance.
They have as much trouble interputing logic as men do interputing their emotions.
Logically dating is prostitution. However, if you add the emotional component. It doesn't FEEL like prostitution. Which is actually what makes the difference.
Lack of commitment is not ONLY men's fault though. Many women are hypergamous by nature. The world is filled with men being cleaned out when a "Better" man enters her life. The fastest attraction switches for them are money, power, and status. What is also interesting is that the skills needed to obtain all of those things are very closely connected. Persistence, charisma, and THRIVING under pressure.
Another component as to why men won't commit is sexual choices.
With multiple women you can get different sexual experiences and emotional experiences.
Ultimately what women are trying to sell you is a strong enough bond so that you will look past her age, and stay with her forever. That is why women require some kind of emotional investment from you to sleep with you.
Masters of seduction can establish that bond effectively in 30 seconds. I have done it that fast twice. No I am no master.
It requires you to be in a flow state so that you ascend above self conciousness entirely, and can just focus on agression and flexibility.
The point being that if you can tap into that state of mind which is attractive to women, there is little point to being married to one when you can be spoiled for choice instead.
Hence a different type of commitment issue that comes from a different frame entirely.
