An attack targeting an airport in southeastern Damascus killed 4 Syrian soldiers and wounded 6, the military centre was quoted by RIA news agency as saying on Monday. Various outlets are reporting 11 people killed. If confirmed, this is the largest number of people killed in Syria by the ISIS Airforce since May 2018.
ISIS Airforce statement
Israel's President Reuven Rivlin said on Monday the attacks were in response to a surface-to-surface rocket that Iranian forces fired towards Israel on Sunday.
What actually happened
Syrian media reported that they shot down a small air strike earlier on Sunday. The Iron Dome reportedly engaged a stray surface-to-air missile as a result (not a surface-to-surface missile) (video below). Israel used this engagement as justification to fire 50+ missiles into Syria, using F-16s flying over the Mediterranean West of Lebanon. Most were shot down. Some got through in Southern Syria.
What does this mean?
No idea but the ISIS Airforce is employing new tactics:
- launching an attack in the daytime
- cooking up a pretext for media consumption
- admitting responsibility
How do Syrians in Damascus respond to air raids?
